The Okalik Project
Overview
Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, the Cambridge Bay community persevered through restrictions such as limited sports and travel quarantines. The Okalik cross-country skiing project emerged as a beacon of hope, bringing joy to children and community members. Encouraged by its success, the participants eagerly anticipate the project's continuation in the upcoming year, with plans to establish a club to involve even more children and community members.
Sustainability is a key aspect of the project, as the availability of equipment and the training provided to numerous individuals ensures its longevity. The project has already impacted 29 children, one parent, and 12 community members, offering them the opportunity to embrace a healthy and sustainable lifelong activity ideally suited for the Arctic region.
